Breakfast for Dinner!

French Toast Always Hits The Spot!

It's just you tonight and you can't think of what to have for dinner. No problem, just make a classic- French Toast. It's easy and cheap to make. All you need is 5 minutes, a few eggs, bread, milk, butter and for me a little bit of Cinnamon, Sugar and Maple Syrup are a must!

This is not really a recipe-just a way to a means:
Serves One

A couple slices of Bread, (I used 2 slices of Italian loaf, but you can use whatever you have in the house)
1 Egg and 1 Egg White (I usually use this ratio for 2 slices of bread, plus eliminating the egg yolk cuts alot of the extra fat out)
About a tablespoon of Milk
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
Pinch of Salt
1 Tablespoon of Butter or Margarine, Plus more for topping
Maple Syrup

Heat the butter in a skillet until foamy. Beat the eggs in a shallow bowl wide enough to fit the bread slice. Add in all remaining ingredients and mix until blended. Place the bread inside the bowl and allow the bread to absorb the egg mixture. Flip the bread to soak the other side.

Place in the skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides, or until middle is set.
Serve with Maple syrup and extra butter or margarine.

What is your favorite breakfast for dinner food?

Mmm Annie, Looks nummy! Dont'cha just love breakfast dinners? We also had breakfast for dinner last night. Hash browns (garden 'taters!) with peppers and onions, eggs, sausage and cream biscuits with nummers jam! Mmm, makes me want it now!

Hey, I have an old french toast recipe from a real old Sunset Magazine recipe book. You blend eggs, milk, flour, vanilla, baking powder, cinnamon, salt altogether in the blender and dip the bread in that then saute in lots of butter......mmmm.

Ciao,
Kim

ps. haven't forgot the tag, just been busy ):

Hey Kim, Glad to see your back! I've never heard of using flour and baking powder. Maybe it makes a puffier french toast?! I think I'll try it next time.

Don't worry about the tag, if you don't have time it's not a biggie!

No maple syrup, no make!!

Hey Little Bird, I've never tried latkes, but I would probably like them since I like hash browns.

Doodles, Migas sounds good too. I hardly ever use tortillas, but it seems like everyone else does. I must be missing out on something!

French toast sounds great but my favorite breakfast for dinner is an omlette!

Love french toast, especially after adding a little bit of Grand Marnier to the batter. Yum. In general, though, I prefer french toast for breakfast because the sugar makes me a bit delirious. For bkft-for-din, I'd choose a savory waffle (usually leave out the sugar and put some herbs, pepper & more salt) topped with a sunny-side-up egg. It sounds weird, but it's delish! :)

Annie, heres the recipe:
Fresno French Toast
2 eggs
1 cup ea. milk, flour
1 1/2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
1 t. ea. vanilla, cinnamon
Whirl eggs in blender(I use food processor) till blended, add rest of ingredients, blend till smooth. Pour into flat dish, dip your fav bread in and saute in lots of butter! Nummy!

I don't do breakfast for dinner much, not because I don't support it, just because I don't think about it.

Sometimes my mom would make fried eggs and potatoes when I was a kid. I liked this.

I do love me some french toast, though! There is a local restaraunt that makes the best I've tasted, and I can't seem to copy it. Good batter, I guess. I don't think it's baked, but fried, and I like that just fine.

I'm used to the way you do it, but with normal sandwich bread. Still good and sweet in a pinch : )

wwm, I feel the same way!

Claire, I too love omelets & fritatta's at all hours of the day or night.

veuveclicquot, I never would have though of adding liquor, but it sounds like a nice idea. Maybe even Amaretto(my fav).
I loooove waffles. Your idea actually sounds good to me!

Kim, Thanks so much, I will try it!

Amy, Yeah any bread would work. I usually would use sandwich bread too, but I happened to have the Italian that day.
